For decades now, couples from all over the world have made their way to the city of romance to forever seal their love on the Pont des Arts. The well-known tradition of fastening a lock onto the bridge and throwing the key into the Seine river below is now but a memory. This week Paris officials closed the bridge and removed over four tons of locks from the bridge and will no longer allow the tradition to continue. Officials have said that the bridge, meant for pedestrians only, was carrying the equivalent weight of an entire herd of elephants with the constant adding of new locks almost daily.
We are glad we had the chance to see the Pont des Arts, love locks and all, before the opportunity was lost to us forever…
