We are thrilled to be returning to Budapest this month for some in-depth investigation on what to do and see in the city.  Budapest is thecapital and the largest city of Hungary, and one of the largest cities in the European Union. It is the country’s principal political, cultural, commercial, industrial, and transportation centre.  The Budapest Metropolitan Area is home to 3.3 million people making it one of the largest cities in Europe. The city covers an area of 202 square miles!

Did you Know?  Budapest is actually the conglomeration of TWO medieval cities, “Buda” and “Pest”, unified in the late 19th century!

Arguably one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest’s extensive World Heritage Site includes the banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue, Heroes’ Square and the Millennium Underground Railway, the second-oldest metro line in the world.  It has around 80 geothermal springs, the world’s largest thermal water cave system, second largest synagogue, and third largest Parliament building. The city attracts about 4.4 million tourists a year, making it the 25th most popular city in the world, and the 6th in Europe (after London, Paris, Rome, Istanbul and Barcelona) according to Euromonitor.

The city is full of lavish, enormous spas and baths where locals (including the ancient Romans and Ottoman Turks) have been soaking away their cares for centuries.  Budapest sits on a thin crust over thermal springs spread throughout the city.  They still say that if you poke a hole in the ground anywhere in Hungary, you’ll find hot water.

We’ll let you know how it holds up to the hype as soon as we get the inside scoop!
