Lake Geneva, Switzerland

One of the most gorgeous areas on Earth has to be Lake Geneva in Switzerland.  Nestled in between charming small towns, heavenly mountains and the Swiss capital, Geneva, it is truly a paradise on Earth.

Arriving via Geneva, one can spend a few days in the capital enjoying heaping pots of hot cheese fondue and some of the most exquisite chocolate in the world.  The old town still maintains its original charm dating back to before the 15th century.  Plunker down in one of the many squares to people watch over a coffee in this most pristine of European cities.  Be sure to head down to the lake to marvel at the Jet D’eau, the tallest artificial water geyser in the world.  You can also visit the European United Nations headquarters before hopping on a train to ride out along the lake to the smaller towns of Lausanne and Montreux.

For some incredible hiking and picturesque views, Montreux is a must.  At the very opposite end of Lake Geneva from the capital, it’s a world apart.  Explore the colorful town bursting with thousands of flowers before embarking up on one of the many hiking trails leading into the surrounding forests and mountains.  Many of the trails will lead you directly to the Medieval Chateau de Chillon, one of the most visited castles in all of Europe.

Plunge back in time on a tour of the castle crypt and dungeon where the chains of some of the most famous historical prisoners are still shackled to the floor.
