Book Review: The Study Abroad Journal

214FriQm4RL._SX326_BO1,204,203,200_

Offering study abroad participants an organized approach to student-travel, The Study Abroad Journal by Brooke Roberts and Natalie Garrett, details methods in which students can create study-abroad experiences that are not only personally rewarding, but also marketable to graduate schools and future employers. Designed to aid students in getting the most out of their program abroad, it serves as a structured travel journal containing a formulated outline for recording one’s experiences. Written by two experienced study-abroad enthusiasts, it covers all aspects of study abroad and advises students on how to prove they did more than just partied. The book includes four areas of focus: Academic Engagement, Cultural Exploration, Career Development, and “Wild Card.” Each section serves as a general outline to guide students in tailoring their experience to fit their personal, academic, and professional goals. Although the book provides students with a universal guideline, it emphasizes the importance of adapting it to meet one’s individual goals while abroad. The book serves as a private space for students to record their memories allowing them to later reflect upon their experiences. The Study Abroad Journal is the perfect go-to source for first-time students abroad in addition to serving as a useful resource for even the most experienced travelers.
