Tips for Studying Abroad in the United States

5061049945_3a185fc6ea_b

After studying in US for almost six months, I’m on my way of  getting used to the totally different study cycle. There are a few tips I’d like to give to you for studying in US

Get to know your syllabus before class starts..

Since you are planning to study in US, you have to know in  what way will you study and what you will study. . It is important to know what schedule of courses you will take and what goals you are supposed to accomplish in each semester. When you are having difficulties, it helps when you are familiar with the structure of the course. If you have trouble understanding things on the syllabus, don’t hesitate to contact the Teacher’s  Assistant (T.A.) and/or  Professor; they are more than willing to help you with such details.

When you have troubles catching up, feel free to reach to a T.A. during office hours

In order to help students not to be left behind, the T.A.  and professor hold office hours on weekdays. Staying in your dorm and scratching  your head won’t help you with your work—going to office hours will.

Don’t be too nerdy—enjoy your time with clubs and sports teams!

Although I talked a lot about academic issues, it doesn’t mean you should spend all your time studying (especially for college students)— you are becoming an adult in college, which means  you should expand horizons .In terms of enjoying your time, choose clubs you are interested in– it might let you catch your breath and have fun, besides studying. Also, believe me, you will make friends, possibly the best  friends ever, and get to know a couple  of things more than expected.

Get to know locals—do not just be a student

As I mentioned above, becoming an adult is the progress you make in college, and you are more than welcome to contribute to the  community. Be a volunteer, take part in local activities, get to know people, all such things help you to get out of school. Even you are a student, don’t let school restrict your life zone. Exploring things you never knew outside of campus will prevent you from facing social troubles in the future. You may not find it comfortable, but the  sooner you do not live only as a student, the  better you will be in terms of adapting to society after graduation.

Go travel

School time is always referred as the best period in one’s whole life. You are

experiencing a golden age of your life , so don’t waste your time staying at home– go travel! See how marvelous the world is, understand  why people are living different lifestyles around you, find the most impressive ‘once upon a time’…. you will be amazed how much growth you will obtain by traveling. As I said, don’t be restricted by your study, your school and where you are. Don’t know how to prepare for a trip? Go to Voy.com and you will find it out! You are in US! Take advantage of it!

Go work (optional)

You will need chances to explore what you genuinely want to do in life, trust me. And summer and winter break are the both perfect times for you to give it a shot. Try to do work in diverse industries, do different work. The more you try, the more you will find out what you truly adore and wish to continue to do in the future.

They are all suggestions I could give to you, the main idea is to try as much as possible. Be an explorer and be safe! Maximize your life circle, and you will find a new and better self-that’s how school is meant to be.
