Lonely Planet Now Has an App for Your Travels

If you have ever looked for information on a city you will travel to, it is likely you have stumbled upon Lonely Planet’s collection of guides for countless cities around the planet. And if you are like us, you are a big fan.

Today we are getting good news, from The Next Web, who reports that Lonely Planet has a new mobile app that lets you explore major cities without hauling your book and maps around.

The all-new app bundles maps, recommendations and budget guides for several major cities around the world, and lets you download city guides for use without a data connection — handy for when you don’t yet have a local SIM card.

Guides currently covers 37 cities including Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris and Vienna in Europe, Boston, Chicago, Montreal, New York and Washington DC in North America and Beijing, Kyoto, Singapore and Seoul in Asia.

In the app you will also find a currency converter that can come in handy when you are without an internet connection and you are haggling over the price of Hong Kong souvenirs.

The major draw of this app is its simplicity, and how lightweight it is in terms of space, so it will not take up memory that can be used for your amazing travel pictures. Plus the fact that it works offline will help you avoid dealing with a disintegrating paper map at the end of your first day traveling (our Editor in Chief constantly deals with this problem).

Once you download the app, go ahead and wander aimlessly. You’ll have a handy map on your phone to find your way back.
